This 'mizusashi' or water container, is also one of the challenging pots to make as part of the Japanese tea ceremony. The rather informal oxide 'splash' decoration balances between the 'natural' and the 'contrived.' Stoneware, approx. 21 cms high and 15 cms wide. c. 1998. In Japan the ceramic lid would be replaced with a more formal lid, common to ch-no-yu, the tea ceremony. In Western culture however, this sort of pot is used as a simple storage pot in the kitchen. I use one such pot as a container for dog biscuits.
